Michael Sik Yuen says he could consider joining the Labour Party

No more a member of the Parti Mauricien Social-Démocrate (PMSD) since
Monday, Tourism Minister Michael Sik Yuen said in an interview to
l’express newspaper that he could consider joining the Labour Party,
with which the PMSD is currently in alliance. Minister Sik Yuen, who
is MP for Constituency No. 17 (Curepipe/Midlands) said that his
eviction from the PMSD stems from his dismissal of Robert Desvaux last
February as chairman of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority.
During a press conference held a few hours after he was expelled from
the PMSD, Michael Sik Yuen said he would continue to sit in Parliament
as an independent minister. He also said that he would ask for a
meeting with the Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party Navin
Ramgoolam to discuss about his future moves, adding he is not against
the idea of joining the Labour Party. However, in a statement
published Monday afternoon, PMSD spokesman Jacques Panglose stated
that the PMSD won’t go into an alliance with ay party that will accept
Michael Sik Yuen as a member, amid speculations that things are not
bright between the PMSD and the Labour Party.
