Keshoe Parsad Matadeen succeeds Bernard Sik Yuen as Chief Justice

The Chief Justice Bernard Sik Yuen retires this Tuesday, December 31,
on the eve of his 6th birthday. Senior Puisne Judge Keshoe Parsad
Matadeen, currently No. 2 in the hierarchy of the Supreme Court, has
been designated as his successor. The appointment of Keshoe Parsad
Matadeen as Chief Justice was endorsed by the President of the
Republic, Kailash Purryag, after consultation with Prime Minister
Navin Ramgoolam. Keshoe Parsad Matadeen will take office from
Wednesday 1st of January 2014. Aged 61, he has already acted as Chief
Justice on several occasions. He has also served as President of the
Republic on August 21st in the absence of Kailash Purryag,
Vice-President Monique Ohsan-Bellepeau and Bernard Sik Yuen, who were
abroad on different work-related missions.
