Michael Sik Yuen officially expelled from the PMSD

The decision had been announced last week and was formally taken this
Monday. Tourism Minister Michael Sik Yuen was expelled from the Parti
Mauricien Social-Démocrate (PMSD) following “diverging views” with his
leader, Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Xavier-Luc Duval.
Shortly after the decision was taken this Monday, Michael Sik Yuen
told reporters that this was a sad day for the PMSD, under whose
banner he was made best loser during the 2010 general elections in
constituency No. 17 (Curepipe/Midlands). Some speculate that the
decision to expel Michael Sik Yuen has less to do with his dismissal
of Robert Desvaux as Chairman of the Mauritius Tourism Authority last
February and more to do with his rumoured proximity with the Labour
Party. Meanwhile, in a statement published on news website
www.defimedia.info, PMSD spokesman Jacques Panglose said that the PMSD
will not agree to an alliance with any party that serves as refuge to
Michael Sik Yuen. For the time being, it is said that Sik Yuen will
remain in constituency No. 17 as an independent MP.
