Michael Sik Yuen to be expelled from the PMSD before the end of 2013
Michael Sik Yuen to be expelled from the PMSD before the end of 2013.
During a meeting Monday night, the politburo of the Parti Mauricien
Social-Démocrate (PMSD) took the decision to expel Michael Sik Yuen,
current Minister of Tourism, from all instances of the party. A motion
in this regard will be made during the next meeting of the PMSD
politburo. According to media reports, Michael Sik Yuen’s expulsion
will take effect before the end of the year. The PMSD, headed by
Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Xavier-Luc Duval, accuses
Sik Yuen of having deliberately shunned functions organised by the
party, among others the wreath laying ceremony to honour party founder
Sir Gaetan Duval, who passed away in 1996. Political observers also
note that Sik Yuen has angered his leader by dismissing Robert Desvaux
from the post of Chairman of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion
Authority, contrary to Xavier-Luc Duval’s stance on the issue.
